This page contains information you need to know before you start
Voicechange installation.
What do you need to know before installation?
You have to know following information:
- Information about the computer - operating system, Netbios computer name.
- Information about user accounts - name and password for account with full "administrator" rights (must be member of Domain
Admins and Enterprise Admins groups, for installation of Exchange gateway also Schema Admins). Installation needs to be done under
administrator's account, or it will fail.
We recommend you to run setup under the same user account, as under which VoiceChange services run after installation.
- Information about hardware configuration of voice device - IRQ, I/O address and DMA if you have ISA Brooktrout card
or serial port number if you have modem... Hardware setting should not conflict with any other device. It can be
detected in System Information tool (winmsd.exe).

What application should be already installed?
- E-mail client for your mail server, connected to mailbox with full administrator rights.
- MS Internet Explorer version at least 4.0.
- Windows Scripting Host version at least 5.6. If it isn't found, setup of WSH will be run
from UMS installation CD.
- Voice card low level driver (CAPI, Brooktrout TR10xx)
- When using Brooktrout TR10xx card, it is good idea to have Brooktrout System Software installed, but it is not necessary - if
VoiceChange setup will not find Brooktrout System Software, it installs it. During setup configuration tools is started and it
detects and configures the card. It also install low level driver if necessary. More info here.

MS Windows 2000,2003
Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server/Advanced Server is primary platform for VoiceChange Server. Functionality
is not limited in any way. If should work also on Windows 2000 Professional.
WARNING if you use Windows 2000 + SP4 - on this system you have not to be able to install low level driver for voice card
(especially for Brooktrout TR10xx). You must download and install fix 822831
from Microsoft.
Client forms work on all versions of Windows; user must have full access rights for installing
Voicechange COM objects -- or they should be installed by administrator. Read this.

Gateway for MS Exchange Server
VoiceChange was sucessfully tested with MS Exchange Server 2000 and 2003.
In the Exchange System Manager, create an organization Form Library for
the appropriate language (name it e.g. VoiceChange forms).
If you don't do this, installation program try do it for you automatically.
How to install VoiceChange with MS Exchange gateway?
Installation have to be run under Windows account, which has administrative privileges for both
Windows and Exchange server.
MS Outlook or MS Exchange client should be running all the time you will be install VoiceChange.
It should be connected to administrator's mailbox.
MS Exchange Server is installed on other computer than VoiceChange
Voicechange with Exchange gateway can run on other computer than MS Exchange server. Both computers should
be members of the same domain.

Lotus Notes gateway
Lotus Notes up to version 7.0 is supported. VoiceChange with Lotus Notes gateway requires:
- Lotus Notes client must be installed on VoiceChange computer.
- Before installation of VoiceChange, you should switch Notes ID
to ID with full administration rights (you will create databases
and modify Public Address Book).
- Location which allows connection to selected Domino server should be active.
This location will be used by Gateway, so it can't be deleted in future
and Gateway should have access rights to it.
- Windows NT user account, under which will be setup run, should have
full access to Lotus Notes program directory a to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Gateway will need an ID for its work. That ID can be shared with
other Datasys UMS application. We don't recommend to use this ID
for any other purposes (server ID, user ID).
You have to use existing ID during installation. ID should be
accessible as a file, not as a record in Addressbook.
VoiceChange gateway can be accessible for "Lotus Notes Mail" license users.
If you select this feature, limited version of voice mail archive will be installed.
If you install limited archive, you can reinstall gateway to upgrade to full version.
If you install full version, "downgrade" to limited version (accessible for
"Lotus Notes Mail" license users) can't be done!
We recommend you following procedure for VoiceChange installation:
- Create user "Datasys UMS" using standard Lotus Notes tools.
- Save ID of this user to disk on VoiceChange computer.
- Set user "Datasys UMS" user (in Public Addressbook) to
have "manager" user rights, and to be
allowed to create databases and agents and to run agents.
- Switch ID to "Datasys UMS" and test, if it's working - send an
e-mail from mailbox "Datasys UMS" to "Datasys UMS", and test
"forward" function also.
- Install VoiceChange with this ID.
- Decrease access rights of "Datasys UMS" user in Public Addressbook.

Brooktrout analog and ISDN BRI cards
If you're using ISA Brooktrout card and you've encountered a problem with IRQ
dedication, go to BIOS setup, find "P'n'P settings" and set:
- P'n'P mode = no P'n'P OS or managed by BIOS
- IRQ X (IRQ 5 by default) = Used by ISA card
VoiceChange works with TR-114 and TR-114 BRI cards without problems.
If you are using TR10xx family card (TRxStream), you must install its low-level driver before Voicechange installation. Insert
card into PC, it will be detected during Windows boot and you'll be prompted to enter path to driver location. It can be found
in support\Brooktrout\TRxStream\Driver
folder of UMS installation CD (trxstream.inf file). If driver installer reports an error,
read this.

Optimal hardware configuration
We recommend to use Pentium II (Celeron) 300 MHz /
192 MB RAM or better, with at least 1 GB free disk space for voice archive (based on traffic).
Because Voicechange works with big WAV files, it can demand big amount of memory.
You should add 200 MB to existing swap file size.
