Here are usefull informations which you should read before starting FaxChange installation.
What application should be already installed?
- E-mail client for your mail server, connected to mailbox with full administrator rights.
- MS Internet Explorer version at least 4.0.
- ADO. FaxChange requires ADO database drivers. The installation performs ADO detection and if necessary also its upgrade.
There is a number of versions of ADO and FaxChange cannot work with older versions than those on the installation CD.
ADO installation is on the CD FaxChange located in /support/odbc/english/MDAC_2.8.EXE
.
- Fax card low level driver (CAPI, Brooktrout TR10xx)
- If you are using Brooktrout cards, it is suitable to install Brooktrout System Software beforehand, although setup itself can do it.
FaxChange can be installed in various configurations, please see all relevant links:

Windows 2000/2003
Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 server is primary a platform for FaxChange. Functionality is not limited in any way.
WARNING if you use Windows 2000 + SP4 - on this system you have not to be able to install low level driver for fax card
(especially for Brooktrout TR10xx). You must download and install fix 822831
from Microsoft.
Virtual memory
Because of FaxChange uses for the conversion of some documents
external applications (MSIE, MS Office...), it is necessary to have
enough virtual memory reserved. On a computer with Exchange Server + FaxChange
Server we advise you to extend swap file by 200MB.
Which account should be used at installation?
FaxChange setup must be started under administrator's account. If you are using MS Exchange gateway
it must have simultaneously administrator rights to the MS Exchange Server.

Small Bussines Server 2000/2003
The same requirements are valid as for Windows 2000/2003. Functionality is not limited in any way.

Gateway for MS Exchange Server
FaxChange was tested with the MS Exchange Server version 2000 and 2003.
How to install FaxChange with MS Exchange gateway?
Installation must be run under Windows account, which has administrator's rights for both Windows and Exchange server.
MS Outlook 98 (or newer) should be run all the time during FaxChange installation. It should be connected to administrator's mailbox.
If you are using Outlook2000 or newer, CDO (Collaboration Data Objects) must be installed. Select custom installation of Outlook
and select this component for installation (default installation doesn't install CDO).
If your Exchange is version 2000/2003
- On the Active Directory root server and on the Exchange server import registry settings from file support\AD\ADenable.reg located on
installation CD (by doubleclick on this file)
- If you have multiple-domain structure, log on under administrative account from the primary (root) domain before installation. Also use
this account for FaxChange.
- If you do not have administrative rights for whole Exchange organization, but only for your Administrative Group, you can install
gatewaye successfully only if Exchange organization administrator performs import of FAX address type beforehand.
This issue is described deeply in "import-adr-template.rtf" document located on the installation CD in
support\Exchange_2000_support
folder.
- Account under which installation was started MUST be member of Enterprise Admins and Domain Admins groups and if user
database is stored in AD, also Schema Admins group.
MS Exchange Server on different server than FaxChange
FaxChange with Exchange gateway can run on different computer than Exchange server. Both computers should be members of the same domain.
If you have the Exchange Server on a different computer than
FaxChange it is necessary to have Exchange System manager installed prior to the FaxChange installation.
Installation of Small Business Server 2003 + Exchange Server
If you want to use FaxChange with Exchange Server shipped with SBS 2003, follow directions
described in KBFX20040422-110251HOR KB record.
FaxChange user database in Active directory?
FaxChange allows direct integration with Active directory (Exchange 2000 and higher).
Configuration of users can be then changed either via fxUserM utility or from
within the "FaxChange" tab directly in Active Directory Users and Computers snapin in MMC.
The advantages are obvious: when adding a user it is not necessary to synchronize database.
If you choose to use the Active directory database the installation will last
longer because calculation of initial attributes must be carried out for each user. Due to this it will be
necessary to wait approximately 1 minute for a group of 100 users!

Gateway for SMTP/POP3 server
FaxChange can be used with common SMTP/POP3 server, either directly or using SMTP receiver.
In FaxChange installation with SMTP gateway document
you can read about SMTP/POP3 gateway properties and about how it is used.

Lotus Notes gateway
Lotus Notes up to version 7.0 is supported.
FaxChange with Lotus Notes gateway requires that
- Lotus Notes client must be installed on FaxChange computer.
- Before installation of FaxChange, you should switch Notes ID
to ID with full administration rights (you will create databases
and modify Public Address Book).
- Location which allows connection to selected Domino server should be active.
This location will be used by Gateway, so it can't be deleted in future
and Gateway should have access rights to it.
- Windows NT user account, under which will be setup run, should have
full access to Lotus Notes program directory a to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Gateway will need an ID for its work. That ID can be shared with
other Datasys UMS application. We don't recommend to use this ID
for any other purposes (server ID, user ID).
You have to use existing ID during installation. ID should be
accessible as a file, not as a record in Addressbook.
We recommend you following procedure for FaxChange installation:
- Create user "Datasys UMS" using standard Lotus Notes tools.
- Save ID of this user to disk on FaxChange computer.
- Set user "Datasys UMS" user (in Public Addressbook) to
have "manager" user rights, and to be
allowed to create databases and agents and to run agents.
- Switch ID to "Datasys UMS" and test, if it's working - send an
e-mail from mailbox "Datasys UMS" to "Datasys UMS", and test
"forward" function also.
- Install FaxChange with this ID.
- Lower access rights of "Datasys UMS" user in Public Addressbook.

Use of BrookTrout cards
If you will use a Brooktrout card of ISA version with FaxChange, you may run into problems with allocating of IRQ's. If you encounter such
situation we advise within BIOS SETUP to find "P'n'P settings. Configure it so that the P'n'P setting will safeguard BIOS (mostly the option
"Use SETUP program" is good, but not "Use ICU" "P'n'P OS") and with IRQ's of Brooktrout cards (default IRQ 5) use set-up "Used by ISA card".
If you are using TR1034 card, you should install its low-level driver and Brooktrout System Software (BSS) before FaxChange installation.
Insert card into PC, it will be detected during Windows boot and you'll be prompted to enter path to driver location. It can be found in
support\Brooktrout\TRxStream\Driver
folder of UMS installation CD (trxstream.inf file). If driver installer reports an error,
read this.
BSS installation can found on the CD in support\Brooktrout\TRxStream\Software
folder.
If you are upgrading from FaxChange version lower than 6.6.02, read this record.

ISDN CAPI cards
If you will use a CAPI 2.0 ISDN card with FaxChange test it out first of
all whether the driver CAPI 2.0 appears to co-operate with FaxChange. On the installation disc you will find the file
faxchange/i386/server/bin/capi/capitest.exe
.
This program tests whether CAPI is correctly installed on your computer and
shows information about optional individual controllers. It is important to
find out in the registry at B1, B2, B3 protocols whether there is support for T.30 fax group 3.
If you plan use CAPI driver and Brooktrout or faxmodem driver together
on one system, CAPI driver must be installed first.

Most important is available RAM. In many cases if FaxChange is installed on the same computer as Exchange,
it is necessary for good running of FaxChange add at least 32MB RAM to RAM necessary for good running of Exchange.

Mapped local drive
FaxChange installation can be started from local
disk (CD-ROM), or from mapped network drive -- Disk letter must be assigned.
Installation from UNC path is not possible.

UNC path (Network Neighbourhood)
FaxChange installation from directory specified by UNC path is not possible
(for example: shared CD-ROM opened by "Network Neighbourhood").
In this case it is necessary map this UNC path -- assign some letter.
