Administration of WCfO

This document will help you with administrating of WAP Connection for Outlook.

How to allow user to use WCfO?

If you want to allow user to use WAP and WCfO, you have to do two following tasks:

Allow user to dial-up to RRAS server
Allow user to use WCfO application

How to allow user to dial-up to RRAS server on Windows 2000?

Run Active Directory Users and Computers from Start Menu - Programs - Administrative Tools. Open user's properties and click to "Dial-in" tab. Check "Allow access" radiobutton.

How to allow user to use WCfO application? (MS Exchange 2000/2003)

Custom attributes are not displayed in "Active Directory Users and Computers" by default. So you have to switch this application to "Advanced Features" mode.

Run "Active Directory Users and Computers" from Start Menu - Programs - Administrative Tools. Click on root of your directory tree using right mouse button. Select View -> Advanced Features.

Now you can modify Custom attributes of users.

If anybody wants to connect to WCfO, NT account is searched in MS Exchange directory in "Custom 9" field. So if you want to allow user to use WCfO, fill his/her NT domain and name into "Custom 9" field of his/her mailbox properties.

Always use "domain\account" form here.

How to configure user's mobile phone to use WCfO?

WAP browser in user's phone should be configured to your company's settings. You have two ways how to set it up:

You can set-up it manually, as described in "Settings of WAP browser in phones" document.
You can find this document updated with informations you've entered during setup (computer names, addresses and so on) in Start Menu - Programs - MobilChange after WCfO setup. So you can simply take this document and send it to user.
Better way is to send configuration to user's phone via SMS. You fill parameters on the computer and then send it via SMS to user's phone. Mobile phone will ask user, if he/she want to use that settings and then it will set the WAP browser as you want. This is known as "Over-The-Air" (OTA) configuration.
MobilChange supports OTA configuration through mxAdvSMS utility. Documentation about it can be found here.

How to check if all is working correctly? How to solve problems?

We recommend you to check if RRAS is working correctly after installation. Run Start Menu - Programs - Administrative Tools - Routing and RAS Administrator. You should see screen like this:

If you want to connect from WAP phone, after small time (about 4-10 seconds for ISDN connection, up to 30 seconds for "Analog" mode) there should be screen like this:

Use F5 to refresh this display or you can set auto-refresh in RRAS Administrator settings.

If connected user is shown in RRAS Administrator, dial-up part of connection works OK. If it doesn't works OK, you can do the following tasks:

Look into Event Viewer for event messages from Router. There will be yellow (warning) messages in System Event Log if user tries to use bad password or so.
Switch on RRAS logging as described in Microsoft KB record Q161426. Then look into logs and search for problems.
Change data connection mode in WAP browser settings from ISDN to Analog.
Change authentication and/or security mode in WAP browser to other settings.

If user is connected, WAP gateway should receive requests from user. Look into umsTaskManager, select MobilChange tab and "WAP Gateway" item. It should look like this:

In "Current State" you can find a request, that has been sent from gateway to web server. "Last State" contain information about last request, which has been processed by web server. You can find username, phone type, URL and a result (200=OK).

How to create any statistics about WCfO usage?

You can switch on creating of Server Log in WAP gateway registry settings (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Datasys\MobilChange\WapGw\serverlog). Server Log contains one line per WAP page access and it is in standard (Apache) format, so it can be processed by standard tools for web server log processing. Item "Client DNS name" contain NT username of authenticated user or DNS name of computer (unauthenticated access).

How to allow users to access WAP pages behind HTTP proxy server (outside of company)?

Set name and port of HTTP proxy server into proxyhost and proxyport items in WAP gateway registry configuration (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Datasys\MobilChange\WapGw\).

WCfO and WAP gateway registry settings

WAP gateway configuration is stored in registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Datasys\MobilChange\WapGw\. You can set log settings (filelog, loglevel), proxy server, ... here.

WAP server (ASP pages and Exchange access) configuration is stored in registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Datasys\MobilChange\wco\. You can set log settings (LogEnabled, LogPath), list of searched public folders, ... here.
