Faxcards and modems

List of tested Faxmodems and FaxCards: Supported faxcards and modems

You can use special fax cards or common fax-modems (Class 1,2/2.0) with FaxChange.

Special fax cards:

Faxmodems:

Brooktrout cards

FaxChange's driver is universal - this means that it may work with other types of Brooktrout fax cards. But it was tested with listed types only.

Brooktrout TR-114 is special fax card with very high performance. It's classic 16bit ISA card. There are two versions of TR 114 -- with two and four fax ports. For installation of TR 114, you need to have one empty 16bit ISA slot, one unused interrupt (can be selected by DIP-switch in range 3--7, 9--12, 14 or 15), one unused I/O address block (can be selected by DIP, too). If you want to get more fax lines, you can use multiple TR 114 in one computer (or you can use multiple TR 114 in more computers, with FaxChange Enterprise edition).

Gammalink cards

FaxChange's driver is universal - this means that it may work with other types of Gammalink fax cards. But it was tested with listed types only.
And - with unlisted types - you may need to configure fax card(s) manually using "Gammalink" applet in Control Panel.

Class 2 / Class 2.0 Faxmodems

FaxChange can use any Class 2 / 2.0 compatible faxmodem. You can not share faxmodem with (for example) RAS. It is necessary to connect modem physically to the computer only - you do not need to install it using "Phone and Modem Options" applet in Control Panel, Faxchange accesses modem directly. All fax communication is driven using AT command set. Faxchange currently supports two comand sets -- Class 2 a Class 2.0.

Class 2 faxmodems

This AT command set wasn't ever fully standardized; it was interceptioned into a few recommendations, which was never strictly abided by individual manufacturers. That's why there are some problems with this set. Distinguishing between fax and data is unambiguous. This command set is widely spread out. ZyXEL supports it in all firmware versions. US Robotics didn't implement it because it isn't oficial standard.

Class 2.0 faxmodems

Class 2.0 is newest fax command specification for faxmodems. It is very similar to Class 2 by its structure and way of work; but commands are shorter and some new were added to solve Class 2 problems and to extend features. This command set is fully standardized. It isn't so spread out, but it gets popularity. It is supported by ZyXEL Elite, ZyXEL 1496 from firmware version 6.12, newer US Robotics and more. But ROCKWELL chipsets don't support it.

At this time Class 2.0 modems are widely available, so their compatibility with Faxchange should be ensured.

Class 1 Faxmodems

FaxChange support faxmodems Class 1. Because of limited instructions set in this protocol we don't recomend Class 1 faxmodems.
