Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98, Windows Me, Windows NT 3.x

MobilChange server doesn't work on these platforms. But users of that systems can use MobilChange through their e-mail client.

MS Windows 2000/2003

Windows 2000/2003 Server is primary platform for MobilChange Server with no limitation. It probably works on Windows 2000 Professional also.

Clients can use MobilChange function from their e-mail software on all Windows 2000/2003 versions.

Windows XP and NT 4.0

Installation of MobilChange on Windows NT 4.0 is possible. But because NT 4.0 is system unsupported by Microsoft, we do not recommend this.

Installation of MobilChange on Windows XP is UNSUPPORTED. Installation can be done, but MobilChange often doesn't work correctly.

MS Exchange Server Gateway

MobilChange Server was tested with MS Exchange 2000/2003.

How to install MobilChange with MS Exchange gateway?

Installation must be run under Windows account, which has full administrative privileges for both Windows and Exchange servers.

MS Outlook 98 (or newer) should be run all the time during MobilChange installation. It should be connected to administrator's mailbox. If you are using Outlook2000, CDO (Collaboration Data Objects) must be installed. Select custom installation of Outlook and select this component for installation. Default installation doesn't install CDO.

If your Exchange is version 2000/2003:

MobilChange with Exchange gateway can run on different computer than MS Exchange server. Both computers should be members of the same domain.

Exchange System Manager must be installed on computer, where MobilChange will be located.

Lotus Notes gateway

Lotus notes up to version 7.0 is supported. MobilChange with Lotus Notes gateway requires that Gateway will need an ID for its work. That ID can be shared with other Datasys UMS application. We don't recommend to use this ID for any other purposes (server ID, user ID).

You have to use existing ID during installation. ID should be accessible as a file, not as a record in Addressbook.

We recommend you following procedure for MobilChange installation:

  1. Create user "Datasys UMS" using standard Lotus Notes tools.
  2. Save ID of this user to disk on MobilChange computer.
  3. Set user "Datasys UMS" user (in Public Addressbook) to have "manager" user rights, and to be allowed to create databases and agents and to run agents.
  4. Switch ID to "Datasys UMS" and test, if it's working - send an e-mail from mailbox "Datasys UMS" to "Datasys UMS", and test "forward" function also.
  5. Install MobilChange with this ID.
  6. Decrease access rights of "Datasys UMS" user in Public Addressbook.

SMTP/POP3 gateway

Your e-mail server have to be configured that e-mails sent to addresses *@*.sms or *@*@sms will be directed into specific POP3 mailbox (we recommend to name it "MobilChange"). MobilChange gateway then read messages from that mailbox.

EMWAC IMS and MobilChange with SMTP/POP3 gateway

If you want to use MobilChange with EMWAC IMS mail server, run program \support\EMWAC_IMS_Support_Setup\Setup.exe from UMS CD -- beforer installation of MobilChange.

That program will install EMWAC IMS from floppy disk (which can be obtained from Datasys) and configure it for working with MobilChange (and FaxChange). Also, it create a service FaxChange.EIMSrouter, which does FAX and SMS messages routing within EMWAC IMS.

Minimal hardware configuration

Processor Pentium 100MHz
Memory 32MB RAM
Disk space 100MB

back to top of page

Optimal hardware configuration

Amount of RAM is very important. If Mobilchange runs on Exchange server, add at least 32 MB RAM for Mobilchange.

We recommend to use Pentium II (Celeron) 300 MHz / 128 MB RAM or better, with at least 1 GB free disk space (based on traffic).

Mapped local drive

MobilChange installation can be started from local disk (CD-ROM), or from mapped network drive. Disk letter must be assigned. Installation from UNC path is not possible.

UNC path (Network Neighbourhood)

MobilChange installation from directory specified by UNC path is not possible (for example: shared CD-ROM opened from "Network Neighbourhood"). In this case it is necessary map this UNC path -- assign some drive letter.

How to set Exchange 2000/2003 for using MCO / WAP

security setting If you want to access mailboxes on Exchange 2000/2003 using Mobile Connection for Outlook or WAP, you must set rights in correct way - Mobilchange service account needs access to all mailboxes. There are more ways how to set them - select only one, which fits best you security needs.
  1. Setting rights on server level with changing inherited rights
Start Exchange System Manager, select Servers -> your server; show Properties -> Security and deselect "Allow inheritable permissions..." checkbox here. Now give Receive As a Send As rights to the account under which Mobilchange runs (and also to all groups listed on Security tab, which is this account member of).
  2. Setting rights on organization level without changing inherited rights
First you must enable displaying of Security tab on all Exchange objects, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q259221. Start Exchange System Manager, select your organization -> Security. Now give Receive As a Send As rights to the account under which Mobilchange runs (and also to all groups, which is this account member of) - change setting from Deny to Allow.

See example on the picture - if Mobilchange runs under Administrator account, uncheck Deny for Receive As a Send As rights and do the same for all groups listed on Security tab, which is Administrator member of.
