FaxChange FAQ

List of questions and answers

How does FaxChange differ from "small-scale" fax solution providers ?

The difference between FaxChange and local fax programmes is described here in the document "Introduction to FaxChange maintenance".

How many fax lines does the server in its basic version serve and how can it be expanded ?

FaxChange is by licence limited to two lines. It is impossible to increase this number within the standard version. FaxChange Enterprise has the capability to suuport 99 lines. Every line can be independently configured as input, output being two-way (direction of line is chosen automatically at the moment of use).

Is it possible to arrange the fax transmission queue in accordance with the various fax transmission priorities ?

Yes. Upon transmission of faxes from MS Exchange the client can determine fax priorities as high, low or normal and from this arrange the faxes present in the queue.

Can the user (not administrator) cancel fax transmissions which are in the queuing system so as to gain general information about it (processing status, whether sent, delivered or not, in the queue etc.) ?

The user can inspect the status of the fax queue with the help of the programme FaxSpy which can be found on the installation CD in the directory \faxchange\i386\client\utils. This programme of course does not allow the modification of the fax queue. In the current version of faxChange ONLY the administrator should modify the fax queue using the programme fxQueue.

Can the fax server be located in a different machine than is located Exchange server ?

Yes. FaxChange can be configured for different computers that do not contain Exchange server. Similarly it is possible to segregate (locate on a different computer) fax card drivers or document converters.

What is the result in the case of the addressees' telephone being answered personally and hence in the process the person failing to switch to fax reception ?

FaxChange will call repeatedly for some time and will continue to do so until reaching the maximum numbers of configured "attempts".

What is the server doing during the re-dial period in the case of the addressee being engaged ?

The server is attempting to send other faxes that are waiting in the queue.

How and where is the conversion to TIFF format performed ?

is performed by two processes. Firstly on the server - all enclosed Microsoft Office files, HTML, RTF, TXT, and others. The second option is a local fax printer - possibility to print the given document from an arbitrary application via a fax printer which is capable of carrying out the conversion to the TIFF format. This can then be sent.

If the country calling codes are previously set up can the sender simply enter the town and number of the addressee ?

If you are planning to send a fax internationally it is necessary to include the international dialling code.

If the fax is being sent internationally does FaxChange automatically choose the cover sheet in the destination language ?

Yes. The system administrator can configure the language of the destination state which. FaxChange then selects automatically upon cover sheet selection.

Does FaxChange allow the user to reply to received faxes ?

Yes. FaxChange generates in the mail header the correct fax address to which you can reply just as with any other post. FaxChange maintains the CSID fax databases which were faxed and appends to them the corresponding telephone numbers. As a result of this process it becomes possible upon fax reception to regenerate the correct fax address.

Does FaxChange allow the monitoring of fax expenditure and its distribution to its corresponding individual users or departments ?

Yes. As an extra to FaxChange it is possible to purchase a key which activates the utility Cost Manager. This application allows monitoring of the expenditure of individual fax users, departments or accounting code (e.g. project monitoring - see detailed information here contained in the document "Introduction to FaxChange maintenance".

What are the "Custom" items in "Transmission options" for ?

Procedures of some companies require the presence of the "Our sign" on fax cover sheets. Else where on the fax cover sheet it maybe necessary to define the topic of the fax as well its priority (urgent, common, non-urgent). Standard variability of the fax cover sheet content within FaxChange cannot cover all possible cases. However, FaxChange possesses the option "Custom" whereby not so common cases maybe considered on the cover page. If you find that you require the item "Our sign", specify that users should register this attribute to the item "Custom 1" and then in the appropriate way rectify the cover page.
