Problem description:

Newer types of Brooktrout TruFax cards can not send fax in CCITT Fax Group 4 format, which is used in FaxChange by default. Problem is related to cards derived from TR1034 family manufactured aproximately since half of 2006 and newer, which uses fxboston driver.

Problem can be detected according to this message in debug log:

1017:215516~3~000 Error [Could not send page] at tfax.cpp:1161
1017:215516~3~000 Could not send page. Status=2. Description: 'APIERR_BOARDCAPAB
ILITY' / 'Misc error: Hardware or firmware does not have a required capability.'

Solution:

Problem can be solved using fxboston driver version 7.7.0 and newer. This driver can be switched to convert faxes to CCITT FaxGroup 3 format, which Trufax card can process.

Set registry value HKLM\Software\Datasys\FaxChange\boston\ConvertToGroup3 in this way (if it doesn't exist, create it - REG_SZ type):

• 0 = faxes will not be converted, so Fax Group 4 format is used
• other than 0 - fax will be converted to Fax Group 3 format before sending
